Algeria’s state-owned oil and gas company, Sonatrach, and the National Center for Cleaner Production Technologies (CNTPP) signed a framework cooperation agreement on Tuesday in Algiers, aimed at consolidating their efforts in environmental and technology management.
For an initial duration of three years, the framework agreement provides for three areas of partnership between the two parties, namely: training and capacity building, management of special and hazardous waste, as well as technical assistance and support. It will thus make it possible to strengthen cooperation between the energy and mining sector and that of the environment, in terms of environmental protection and the preservation of wealth.
The agreement was signed by the Central Director of HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) of Sonatrach, Abdelkrim Ouamer, and the CEO of the CNTTP, Abdelkader Fergui. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ouamer affirmed that this framework agreement is in line with the new HSE policy of Sonatrach signed by its CEO last March, making the environmental dimension a “priority” for the company. It is also “in line with the environmental objectives of the company for the period 2022-2026,” he said.
