Tanzania and Kenya Sign $1 Billion Dar es Salaam-Mombasa Gas Pipeline Deal

Tanzania and Kenya have signed a multibillion-dollar gas pipeline deal that will run between the coastal cities of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam. Estimated to cost $1.1 billion, the 600km pipeline will enable the transportation of natural gas from Tanzania’s nascent plant.
“This is a long-term project, and we are thankful that today we have signed an agreement and what remains is implementation. We have agreed on the need to ease the transportation of key energy resources and we have reached one such understanding on the transportation of gas. What we need to do now is start implementing the Dar es Salaam-Mombasa gas pipeline project,” Tanzanian President H.E. Samia Suluhu said at the signing ceremony last week.
Although no timelines were given, President Suluhu noted that technocrats have been directed to start working immediately.
