Ethiopian Airlines suspends operations in Mozambique as of tomorrow

Ethiopian Airlines will suspend operations in Mozambique as of Thursday, it announced in a statement, citing “market conditions” due to the covid-19 pandemic as justification for the measures.“Despite the challenges, Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines remained resilient, operational until the economic effects of the pandemic became so severe that they made it impossible to continue due to the drastic drop in demand for travel in the domestic market,” the document reads.Domestic flights that since 2018 connected several provincial capitals of the country are suspended, in which Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) is once again the only operator.Also read: Ethiopian Airlines delivers COVID-19 vaccine to Brazil; over 20 million doses delivered worldwideThe company says it will continue to be attentive to the market and open to improvements that will allow it to return to activity.Mozambique has an accumulated total of 815 deaths and 70,000 cases of covid-19, of which 38 are hospitalized and 96% recovered.
