Mauritanian-South African Consortium Selected To Develop Mauritania’s Gas Master Plan

The Mauritanian-South African EPCM Consultants/Meen Consultants consortium has been selected by the Ministry of Petroleum, Mines and Energy to develop Mauritania’s Oil and Gas Master Plan, a comprehensive strategy for the exploration, production and development of the country’s hydrocarbon resources.

Fourteen international firms also displayed interest in the contract – of which seven were shortlisted – following the launch of a consultation in August 2019.

The decision reinforces the collaborative nature of the relationship between Mauritania and South Africa, along with the success of South-South partnerships in advancing energy objectives. With approximately one trillion cubic feet of proven natural gas reserves – and the offshore Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project being developed in partnership with Senegal – a Gas Master Plan will enable Mauritania to optimize the exploration and monetization of its reserves.
