“It was with a sense of deep sorrow that we received the sad news of the death, due to illness, of  Daviz Simango, President of the Municipal Council of Beira; President and founder of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) and member of the State Council,  in the neighbouring Republic of South Africa.

“”In his lifetime, Daviz Simango contributed greatly to the consolidation of our democracy, through his dedication to the political and social life of the country, both as a party leader as well as a member of the State Council.

“Since he was stricken by the disease, we have always been hopeful of his recovery. With his premature departure, Mozambique loses one of the most important voices in the country’s recent political history.

“His contributions created new values in the national political space, which gave us a great advance in consolidating peaceful and harmonious coexistence among Mozambicans.

“In this moment of pain, consternation and mourning, on behalf of the Mozambican people, the Government of Mozambique and on my own, we address our most heartfelt condolences to the Simango family, to the citizens of Beira City and to the members of the MDM.”
