Capacity building in Guyana

Kwame Jantah, Ghana’s head of the African Energy Consortium LTD and Senior Vice President of the Freddie Jordan Oil Company LTD, advised Guyana International Petroleum Exhibition (GIPEX), at a conference held at the Marriott hotel, to create a niche for themselves by taking advantage of training and capacity building and taping into the local content area by training and equipping local technicians, welders and fabricators who would invariably be of use in the repair of underwater fabrication and maintenance of subsea infrastructure.
He reflected that this was an area in which his country, Ghana, learnt early enough, which led to the set up of a welding and fabrication association and got oil companies to help bring experts to train members, subsequently an open invitation was extended to Ghanaians who were working in gulf countries engaged in welding and fabrication to come home and help. And they did, bringing along with them their expertise and in the process help train others
